NMCLT’s Indigenous Walking Tour returns!

We were thrilled to have Luis Sanakori Ramos back for his Indigenous Walking Tour of Inwood, with a focus on Inwood Hill Park. Over 40 community members came out to hear Luis talk about the living history of our neighborhood, from before colonization through the early 1900s.

Community Land Trusts as a concept owe a large debt to indigenous people’s understandings of land as a responsibility we hold in common to steward. We lift up that connection as an important counter to the way land is treated as property that has monetary value today.

The timing of our walking tour also provided neighbors with a chance to create new memories around the late November holiday that center indigenous histories on the land we occupy today.
